Most bars take a while to build up a reputation. The Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog has done it in just a matter of months. Opened in February and named after legendary boxer, gambler, and politician John Morrissey's gang, this Battery Park spot offers two floors of drinking and dining excellence, with an informal taproom on the ground floor focused on craft beer, bottled punch, and whiskey, and an upstairs parlor with small plates, communal punches, and a menu of 72 cocktails that aim to be as historically accurate as possible — no unnecessary modern twists here. Oh, and there really is a small selection of grocery items available as well, from cheeses and meats to sauces, teas, and even toothpaste.
