The National Quilt Museum

Paducah, Kentucky

Yes, that's its real name, and no, it's not as boring as it might sound. The National Quilt Museum is a 27,000 square foot celebration of the time-honored art of quilt making. Far from the traditional, simple geometric forms we most often associate with the art — although the museum is home to plenty of those, as well — the museum houses a wide array of quilts that break out of that traditional mold, to the point where you need to look twice to make sure it's not a canvas. With exhibits of quilts both old and new that change 8-10 times per year and a location just two blocks from the Ohio River, it makes for a great diversion if you're in the area.
