It's not hard to find a bit of history in the Golden City, but if you like to wash yours down with a classic cocktail, The House of Shields is your place. Originally opened in 1908, the landmark bar underwent an extensive renovation in 2010. They kept the most important pieces intact, however, including the original carved redwood bar, mosaic tile floors, burnished booths, and lack of clocks and TVs. Can't decide what to drink? The place is known to serve up a fantastic bloody mary.
