Don't let the shabby surroundings fool you — if you're a beer drinker, the Toronado Pub is one of the best places you could be. Located in the lower Haight, this small dive offers a fantastic selection of beers both on tap and in the bottle, and also hosts a Barleywine festival every year in February. Like many similar spots, be prepared to bring cash — they don't accept cards.
