It's not often that you find sophistication in a campus-area bar, but that's exactly the case with the West End Wine Bar. Opened in 1997 near UNC, this upscale watering hole offers a huge selection of wines from all over the globe by the glass or bottle, as well as a solid list of microbrews and a full bar. The food menu leans towards tapas, cheeses, charcuterie, and pizza, any or all of which can be paired with your drink to enhance the experience. As if that wasn't enough, there's also a pleasant rooftop patio and a cellar that's home to a pair of pool tables and plenty of seating. And if you prefer to support a darker shade of blue, there's a location in Durham, as well.
