Plenty of forts are open to visitors — but how many let you actually stay there? Spitbank Fort does, making it one of the more unique accommodations around. It was completed in 1878 as a fortification against a possible French invasion, continued its use through WWII, and has now become a luxury hotel with spacious Admiral Suites, cozy Commodore Rooms, three dining areas, and multiple bars. It's not exactly cheap, but then again, how often can you rent out an island that's also a fort?
