Forget Marietta — Sam's BBQ 1 is one of the best barbecue joints in the state. Founded in 2004 as a take-out operation, this award-winning spot has grown to become a full-sized restaurant. The menu includes barbecued baby back ribs, pulled pork, brisket, chicken, sausage, and turkey, all of which is made using the highest-quality, hand made sauces and rubs then cooked over a wood-burning pit. The result is succulent meat that pairs great with the selection of sides, which includes seasonal brisket chili, baked beans, collard greens, fries, onion rings, fried okra, tots, and sweet potato tots. Even better, there's beer and wine available, so you can wash everything down with an adult beverage — or multiples, assuming you're not driving.
