Texas is serious chili country — so you know if a Texan restaurant is famous for its chili, it's likely to be the real deal. Tolbert's Restaurant is known from coast to coast for its bowls of Texas Red, a bean-less, thick version that's filled with beef chunks, served with cheese and onions, and topped with chili peppers. The menu also includes variations on the theme — the Frito Chili Pie is noteworthy — as well as burgers, salads, steaks, and traditional Tex-Mex fare. And should you decide to give your taste buds an extra workout, be sure to order your chili "5-Alarm" — and be sure you stick close to a bathroom afterwards, just in case.
