It's not a twisty, high-speed test of driving skill — hell, it's not even paved, and is only open from May to October — but when it comes to natural beauty, it's hard to beat the Denali Highway. This remote stretch of road — also known as Alaska Route 8 — runs 135 miles from Paxson to Cantwell, and was opened in 1957. Along the route, and depending on the weather, you can catch views of Mount Hayes, Mount Hess, Mouth Deborah, and even Mount McKinley — stats made all the more impressive by the fact that at 4,086 feet, MacClaren summit is the highest point on the road.
