Ben's Chili Bowl

Washington, D.C.

It might not look like the kind of place a President would eat, but plenty have come to get their fill at Ben's Chili Bowl. Founded in 1958 in a location that had previously served as a silent film theater and pool hall, Ben's serves up world-famous chili and chili burgers to throngs of faithful regulars and out-of-towners alike. It's still owned by the same family, still features the same counter, booths, and stools, and still offers wondrous half-smokes — half-pork, half-beef sausages that are a local specialty.
