Sure, the name is a little unusual, but so is the value of the bites at Sushi Deli 1. This Hillcrest joint takes no reservations, so there's typically a line out the door, but one taste of the food and you'll understand why. The menu ranges from standard nigiri, sashimi, noodles, and tempura and teriyaki meats to a lengthy selection of rolls that includes both standard items and more inventive rolls like the spicy Red Dragon, the veggie-heavy Salad Wrap, and the insane San Diego, which features lobster mix and cream cheese inside, spicy tuna, crab, and crunchies on top, and is then battered and fried whole, tempura-style, resulting in a filling plate of goodness for under $8. And fear not if you don't live nearby — there's also a Sushi Deli 2 in downtown and a third location (Sushi Deli 3) in Clairemont.
