You can go to Disney and float harmlessly through the story of Brer Rabbit, or you can go to the Laura Plantation and see where these ancient folktales were originally recorded. This Creole sugarcane farm dates all the way back to 1805, and is home to a guided tour based on 5,000 pages of documents related to the plantation, with the major stories taken from former resident Laura Locoul Gore's own Memories of the Old Plantation Home. Even better? It's within an hours drive of New Orleans, so you'll still have time to go have some authentic Creole food once the tour's over.
